Willow Song - Basket and Song Weaving
with Jasmine Harrison & Kate Sutherland
Gather around the woodstove for a weekend of hand work & singing in community. As we weave our voices in harmony, you’ll also weave your own beautiful pack basket using three different weaving patterns.
A passionate naturalist and skillful teacher, Jasmine will teach you three different weaving techniques, as you work (primarily with) willow to create your pack basket. Throughout the experience, Kate will bring song to weave our voices in harmony as we artfully use our hands. Our days will be spent by the woodstove, with body movement and tea breaks throughout. Dinners, coffee and tea are also provided (You'll bring your own breakfast and lunches, with access to a full kitchen for preparation).
There is very limited space for this workshop, as materials and space are limited. It promises to be a cozy and intimate weekend, a perfect opportunity for late-winter craftiness before the spring thaw.
Singing belongs to everybody, and your voice is welcome! And your working hands are beautiful, capable and strong. No singing or basket-making experience is required for this workshop. Come as you are, with and open heart and mind, and let the dreamy experience unfold.
Logistics:
When: Friday March 6 - Sunday March 8, 2026
Arrive 4-6, dinner will be at 7 and we'll begin our crafting afterwards
Where: at Kate's home in Desboro, ON (directions will be provided upon registration)
Bring your own sleeping bag/bedding-- cots and beds provided.
Exchange: $375-475 sliding scale. This covers basket-making materials, shared accommodations, dinners, yummy baked goods, and coffee & tea.
Please note that the actual cost of the workshop is $475. The lower end of the sliding scale is available for those for whom full price would result in hardship (i.e., an inability to pay bills or buy groceries). This differs from making a financial sacrifice (i.e., attending this workshop rather than buying a new guitar this month). For a more in-depth exploration of this idea, check out this great article by Alexis J. Cunningfolk of Worts & Cunning Apothecary: https://www.wortsandcunning.com/blog/sliding-scale
We appreciate your honest consideration of where you are on the scale.
To register, email Kate at katesutherlandmusic@gmail.com indicating you're in! Send your payment via e-transfer to the same email address. Kate will follow up shortly afterwards with directions and other logistics.
We can't wait to weave with you!
